Dear Parents and Players of Genoa City Recreation Baseball,
After many very successful years of Genoa City Baseball as we know it, with a complete in-house program followed by “tournament teams” at all levels, we have been experiencing a shift in what our kids (and parents) would like to see in a league. It is the goal of the Genoa City Baseball program to serve all our young athletes in the best way that we can. We are excited to announce that for the 2018 season Genoa City Baseball will be transitioning to the Genoa City Predators Baseball and Fastpitch, which will allow our 8U and older athletes to experience a higher level of competition in a travel league. A description of the new structure of the league follows; the changes will take effect at the end of the 2017 Spring season. We hope you are as excited about the new format as we are!
Instructional Program (5-6 year old’s)
We will be keeping the instructional program as we have done in the past. This program is designed to introduce our young individuals to baseball and emphasize basic fundamentals. Our goal is for the kids to develop a strong foundation to work with at a reasonable price and get the kids excited for what is to come in years ahead.
Pinto Level (7-8 year old’s)
Our Pinto level will also be staying the same as years past. We feel instilling strong fundamental concepts in the young boys and girls is very important and this is best done with our current format. For 2018 we are planning on staying in the Nippersink League unless we have an increase in interest that we can field at least four teams. In this situation, we would pursue an in-house program once again.
Predator Baseball (formerly Mustang’s and Bronco’s)
Genoa City Baseball 9U and up is disbanding in-house baseball and is converting to travel baseball. What this means is that we will have more flexibility in drafting of teams, scheduling of games and practices, and the ability to play teams that we feel match our level of competitiveness. Teams going forward will be known as the Predators (Black, Red, Grey, etc) and will be drafted according to talent, attitude, sportsmanship, and physical ability. We realize that age means nothing as kids develop and some kids develop faster than others. This new format will allow us to push the kids to the next level by grouping them with similar abilities even though ages may vary. This will give our advanced players the option to play on higher level teams which better match their ability. Our goal is also to instill the competitive drive to compete for the higher-level teams spots the following year. Unfortunately, with this model going forward, every kid may not make a team. We will have 11-12 kids per team and will do our best to find a place for everyone but this will depend on how many kids tryout.
This program will be starting at the 8U age group and continue through the 14U age group. At this time, we are unsure how many teams we will have at each level, due to all the changes, but announcements will be made shortly after the tryouts on August 12th.
We are excited to announce that girl’s Fastpitch will be once again in Genoa City. Our home fields will be at Krisik Park and will be starting the 2018 season with 9U-14U teams. 8u and younger are encouraged to participate in our Instructional and Pinto level teams which will teach fundamentals that pertain to baseball and softball.
Instructional and Pinto League: All kids 8 are under are encouraged to play in our Instructional and Pinto Programs. Early registration will start in November, followed by regular registration in January. Tryouts will follow as necessary in March and announcements will be made soon on exact dates.
